Stand by Your Man

It's a good story.... I'll tell you all about it after he hears the song :-)  It's about my old bass player, a young, good-lookin' cat who always had women chasin' after him on the gigs...

Ok, he heard the song and likes it.  Well, more like he's flattered that it is now recorded in local music history that he had multiple women comin' to the gigs fightin' with each other to see which girl was gonna be lucky enough to drive him home.  Because he didn't have a car.  Which girl was gonna be lucky enough to feed him and give him a bed to sleep in that night (cuz he didn't have no place to go).  He liked them both so he didn't care which one got him for the night.  He'd just wait and see who lasted til the end of the gig.  Sometimes these girls would trap me in the bathroom and try to get me to talk about the other one, but I wouldn't.  They were both nice girls, they were just in love with a musician.  I know that mistake.  But from where I was standin' on stage... I'd see them snarling at each other from across the bar... and I'd think, "honey, if you don't give him a ride from the gig... she will.  If you don't give him money.... she will.  If you don't stand by your man, believe it, another woman will come along and she can stand by your man!

Ya got to stand by your man honey, if you can

If you don't stand by your man another woman will come along who can

stand by your man.

Yeah, you give him all your money.  And you let him waste all your precious time.  But you better open up your hand or another woman will come along who can stand by your man.
